El Calafate to Puerto Natales

The Patagonian portion of our trip started in El Calafate which was base for exploring Los Glaciares National Park and the Perito Marino Glacier. Laguna Nimez, a bird sanctuary, located in El Calafate provided a full afternoon of bird watching and photography. We also enjoyed a home hosted dinner with Gabo at his home in El Calafate. Leaving the city we took a circuitous route to Torres del Paine National Park (there ain't no direct roads) where we enjoyed stunning mountain and glacial landscapes and, in addition to a drive through with stops, took two long hikes in the park.
